College Football Week 2 Betting Preview

After starting the season with a blowout win over the USC Trojans the Alabama Crimson Tide appear to have a cupcake matchup on their hands this weekend when they host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

At online sportsbook Bovada the Crimson Tide are a 30-point favorite in what should be another easy win. Last week they crushed the Trojans 52-6 and easily covered the 13-point spread. That was Alabama’s 13th straight win straight up, a run on which they've gone 8-5 against the spread. At home Alabama is 22-1 SU in their last 23 games, but only 11-12 ATS.

Western Kentucky took down the Rice Owls 46-14 as a 17.5-point favorite last week to extend their winning streak to seven. They’re 6-1 ATS in those seven wins.

In their last 24 games as a 30-point favorite or more Alabama is a perfect 24-0 SU and 8-16 ATS. The last time they faced Western Kentucky in 2012 they won 35-0, but failed to cover the 38-point spread.

The No. 2 ranked Clemson Tigers also should have an easy time this weekend as a 36-point home favorite against the Troy Trojans. Clemson is 18-1 SU and 10-9 ATS in their last 19 games after defeating the Auburn Tigers 19-13 as an 8.5-point favorite last week. At home the Tigers have won 16 straight games with a 9-7 ATS record.

The Trojans started the season by defeating the Austin Peay Governors 57-17 as a 41-point favorite. Even with the win the Trojans are only 4-7 SU and 6-5 ATS in their last 11 games. In their last eight games against opponents from the ACC they are 0-8 SU and 4-4 ATS.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish started the season off on the wrong foot last week, but will try to rebound on Saturday when they host the Nevada Wolf Pack.

The Irish were a 3.5-point road favorite last week in their 50-47 loss to the Texas Longhorns. That was their third straight loss SU and they’re 1-2 ATS in those games. At home Notre Dame has won six in a row with a 5-1 ATS record.

At Bovada the oddsmakers expect Notre Dame to roll over the Wolf Pack as a 28-point favorite. The Irish are a perfect 7-0 SU in their last seven games as a 28-point favorite or higher and 3-4 ATS. The last time they faced Nevada in 2009 they won 35-0 as 14-point chalk.
