NFL, College Football Both on Betting Board for the Week

The first full week of the new season of football betting action is on tap for this week, and the sportsbooks have posted odds for both the second week of college football matchups and the opening slate of 16 NFL regular season contests.

Week 2 in college football starts off on Thursday night with the Pac-12 Arizona Wildcats going on the road to face the UTSA Roadrunners out of Conference USA. The Wildcats come in as 7-point favorites and the total for this game has been set at 54. Arizona is 1-4 against the spread in its last five road games and it is 5-14 straight-up in its last 19 games on the road. Texas-San Antonio is 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall.

Friday night features an ACC showdown between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Boston College Eagles. The Panthers will go on the road as 4.5-point favorites and the total has been set at 53. Both teams come into this game 1-0 both SU and ATS this season, but Pittsburgh holds a 4-1 SU edge in the last five meetings between the two schools. The Eagles are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games.

One of the bigger contests on Saturday’s college slate is a Big 12 battle between Kansas State and Iowa State. The Wildcats rolled over SF Austin in their opener 55-16, but they could not cover as hefty 42-point home favorites; they have been listed by 5Dimes as 12-point road favorites against the Cyclones. Kansas State is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games and Iowa State has lost eight of its last nine home games SU.

Turning to a few games this Sunday in the NFL, the New England Patriots will begin their quest for a sixth straight AFC East division title when they square off against the rival Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium. The Patriots are listed as 4.5-point road favorites and the total has been set at 47. The Pats have won their last 10 season openers SU, but their record ATS in those games is just 5-4-1.

Another interesting matchup in Sunday’s early games has Minnesota on the road against St. Louis. The Rams lost starting quarterback Sam Bradford for the year, but they have still been opened as 4-point favorites for this game. The total is set at 43.5. St. Louis is a costly 2-11-1 ATS in its last 14 season openers and the Vikings come in with an 0-7-1 mark ATS in their last eight road games as an underdog.
