Sports Betting Week: NLCS Rematch on Tap

The New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs meet up at Wrigley Field this week in another rematch of last year’s NLCS. The first time the Mets and Cubs met up this season it didn’t go well for Chicago, as the Mets swept that four-game series in New York, and when you include last year’s playoff series they have won eight straight against the Cubs.

The pitching matchup in the series opener, Noah Syndergaard against Jon Lester, is a repeat of the July 3 game between the two NL contenders. Syndergaard dominated Chicago to the tune of one run on seven hits over seven innings with eight strikeouts. Lester didn’t even get out of the second inning after getting pummeled for eight runs on nine hits in 1 1-3 innings.

Also on the NL slate this week, the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Washington Nationals. The Dodgers swept the Nationals in a three-game series in June in their only meeting so far this season. In their last eight games against Washington the Dodgers are a stout 7-1. For totals bettors the UNDER has been a must-play when these two teams clash; all three games in June went UNDER the posted total and the UNDER is 7-1 in their last eight.

In interleague play the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox meet up for the second time this season. In June the Giants and Red Sox faced off in a short two-game series in San Francisco which they split at one win apiece. Boston still holds the advantage in the series recently at 5-2 in their last seven against the Giants. Overall the Red Sox are hot at home right now with four straight wins and six in their last seven games at Fenway Park.

On the links this week the PGA Tour heads north for the Canadian Open. For the second consecutive year Glen Abbey will play host to the tournament. Last year Jason Day won by one stroke over Bubba Watson. Day returns to Glen Abbey this week and he’s a +500 favorite at online sportsbook Bovada to repeat as champion. Dustin Johnson follows him on the odds at +550, and Matt Kuchar is next at +1600.

Other former Canadian Open champions in the field this week include Brandt Snedeker (+2000), Chez Reavie (+12,500), Carl Pettersson (+50,000) and two-time champion Jim Furyk (+2500).
