Of course his time at Alabama under Nick Saban (2007-2010) has been a talking point and in his four years as WR coach, the Crimson Tide won a National Championship in 2009. For those that have not gone deeper, Miami's Mario Cristobal also comes from the tree of Saban, spending 2013-2016 in Tuscaloosa as assistant head coach, offensive line coach, and recruiting coordinator. Alabama won the National Championship in 2015. Even though some have questioned Cristobal's in-game decisions, we're making the coaching situation a push or slight edge to Double C.

Now the players on the field. Start with the most important position, the guys with the arms. Obviously, you gotta give an edge to Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, who has been SPECDONKULAR in the Rose and Peach Bowls. Don't remember anything close to what he is doing on the big stage, completing 31 of 36 passes (86%) for 369 yards with EIGHT TDs and ZERO INTs. His wheels ain't bad either, with 16 yards on the ground against Alabama and 28 against Oregon. But don't sleep on Miami's Carson Beck. His numbers are not as gaudy as Mendoza's, but Beck has been around the block and does not seem to get flustered. Still, advantage Fernando.

Miami will be playing in its backyard, so ya gotta give the Hurricanes a slight home field edge.

And we do have a common opponent. Both teams played Ohio State. Indiana squeezed past the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis, 13-10. Miami posted a 24-14 W against Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. After a look at the box scores of both games, the stats are pretty even. The Hoosiers picked up 118 yards on the ground while holding the Buckeyes to just 58, and they picked QB Julian Sayin once. The Hurricanes were able to gobble up 153 yards on the ground while holding the Buckeyes to only 45, and they picked Sayin twice.
