Why the Blue Jackets? Here's why!
Las Vegas - Skating on to the ice tonight in Columbus and trying on the Blue Jackets over the Flyers. Columbus was stumbling at 18-26 in early January which cost Dean Evason his job behind the bench. Rick Bowness stepped in as the head coach and the Blue Jackets have won six of the last seven. Philly has gone the other way, jumping out to a 22-19 record before losing eight of the last 10. You know the old saying, if the jacket fits. Well, these Jackets are a perfect fit for the Bank of Benj.
And was just wondering how the Blue Jackets decided on their nickname. Well, after a little research, we found this. According to the NHL's Columbus website, the name was selected because it pays homage to Ohio’s contributions to American history and the great pride and patriotism exhibited by its citizens, especially during the Civil War as both the state of Ohio and the city of Columbus were significantly influential on the Union Army. Ohio contributed more of its population to the Union Army than any other state, while many of the blue coats worn by the Union soldiers were manufactured in Columbus.
