Las Vegas - Give a round of applause to Tennessee coach Rick Barnes for getting his Vols to the Elite Eight. Okay, now you can stop clapping because the road ends this afternoon in Chicago. Tennessee beat an overrated Miami-Ohio team (78-56), dumped Virginia (79-72) and then pulled away from an Iowa State (76-62) team that did NOT have its best player (Joshua Jefferson). Now they face a Michigan team that has roughed up every opponent in the tournament. The Wolverines eased past Howard (101-80), smoked Saint Louis (95-72) and posted an easy win against Alabama (90-77). Just in case the Vols have some fight left, we'll take Michigan from -7.5 to -1.5 points to advance to the Final Four.
In the second game, we're thinking that this is gonna be a tight battle to the final buzzer. Kinda like Duke's 80-75 win over St. John's on Friday night. Connecticut is a virtual mirror image of the Red Storm in a number of ways. They both play wicked defense and both are exceptionally coached. The Huskies lost five games this season and just one was by more than nine points. Yes, the Blue Devils are really, really good and yes, they could put a leash on the Huskies. But they've covered only two of the last seven, and even if they win, it AIN'T gonna be by double digits. That's why we're taking UConn and plumping the Huskies up from +5.5 to +11.5 points against the Dookies.
