Skubal & Verlander not yet ... but Melton is firing darts!
Las Vegas - It has been an ugly start to the season in Detroit with the Tigers sitting at 27-39. No one expected that after Detroit posted a 87-75 record last season and made it to the second round of the playoffs before bowing out against Seattle. No one expected two time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal to get hurt and miss a month and a half. Everyone expected the Tigers to contend for the A.L. Central crown after picking up Framber Valdez from the Astros with that gorgeous 84-56 career record. The starting pitching rotation is still waiting on Skubal's return and it looks like Justin Verlander is a week or two away. So, they will give the ball to Troy Melton tonight and the kid has been throwing darts. Melton has allowed only four earned runs over 20.2 innings for a skinny little 1.74 ERA. Minnesota starter Taj Bradley has had problems since returning from that right pectoralis injury. In his last two starts, Bradley has been rocked for 12 hits and eight earned runs in just eight innings. Ouch! We're dancing with the Tigers tonight in Motown.
