Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Betting Odds
It’s the Fourth of July tomorrow, which can mean only one thing. It’s time to find out who can stuff the most hot dogs down their gullet.
The annual Fourth of July tradition, the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, engulfs Coney Island and all eyes will be on Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo. It will be a shocking upset if anyone has the stomach to defeat Chestnut or Sudo.
On the men’s side, Chestnut has dominated the contest for more than a decade, winning in 11 of the last 12 years. Last year he broke his own record by chowing down on 74 dogs.
Stonie +415 underdog vs Chestnut in head-to-head odds
The only other professional eater who has beaten Chestnut in the last 12 years is Matt Stonie in 2015. At Bovada Sportsbook, the head-to-head odds for Chestnut vs Stonie have Chestnut listed as a -750 favorite and Stonie as a +415 underdog.
In last year’s competition, second place went to Carmen Cincotti, but he was still well behind Chestnut with 64 dogs down the hatch. At Bovada, they’ve evened things up on the Chestnut vs Cincotti matchup, giving Chestnut a 10.5-hot dog spread to overcome. With that spread, both eaters are listed at -120.
For the OVER/UNDER on Chestnut this year, bettors have several different options to choose from. The numbers start at 71.5 with the OVER favored at -270 and the UNDER at +180. Next is 72.5 with the OVER at -175 and the UNDER at +135. Lastly is 73.5 with the OVER at -130 and the UNDER at -110. Remember, Chestnut ate 74 hot dogs last year, but before that had topped 71.5 only once.
Field at +700 to end Sudo’s five-year reign
Over on the women’s side of the competition, it’s Miki Sudo vs everyone. Literally it is, as the oddsmakers have set Sudo at -1600 and the rest of the women’s field at +700.
Last year, Sudo won her fifth straight hot dog eating title when she wolfed down 37 hot dogs. That was down from the 41 dogs she ate in 2017 and the 38.5 she inhaled in 2016.
For Sudo, there are two totals at Bovada for bettors to choose from. First up is 40.5 with the OVER at +170 and the UNDER at -250. During her five-year reign, she’s only topped 40.5 once, when she ate 41 in 2017.
