2020 MLB Rookie Of The Year Odds
Will another Los Angeles Dodgers player claim a Rookie of the Year Award in 2020? If the oddsmakers are right, they will.
Right now at Bovada Sportsbook, the favorite to claim the National League Rookie of the Year Award is the Dodgers’ Gavin Lux at +200. That makes him a pretty big favorite, as the next in line is the Washington Nationals’ Carter Kieboom at +1000. If Lux were to take the award, he’d become the 19th Dodgers player to win it.
Tatis, Guerrero were favorites a year ago
Being listed as the preseason Rookie of the Year favorite didn’t mean much last season. In the NL, Fernando Tatis Jr. was the preseason favorite, while in the American League the favorite was Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Neither won the award. The winners turned out to be Pete Alonso and Yordan Alvarez.
If Lux and Kieboom don’t live up to their billing (and Kieboom did not during a cup of coffee with Washington last season), who are some of the other contenders? At Bovada, there’s a logjam of players at +1100, including Brendan Rodgers, Dustin May, MacKenzie Gore and Dylan Carlson.
A few value bets that might be worth a look include Nico Hoerner at +1600 and Sixto Sanchez at +2000. Hoerner has a chance to be the Chicago Cubs’ starting second baseman, while the Miami Marlins hope Sanchez is the future ace of their starting staff.
ChiSox teammates top AL odds
In the AL, a pair of Chicago White Sox players top the odds at Bovada, with Luis Robert at +250 and Michael Kopech at +400.
Robert has been called the next Mike Trout by some of his teammates. He could get a start on that comparison by winning the Rookie of the Year, which Trout won in 2012.
Kopech is returning from Tommy John surgery and a shortened season could improve his chances of winning the award. Kopech, who can hit 100 mph on the radar gun, will be facing an innings limit, but that may not be as detrimental in a shortened season.
Following Robert and Kopech on the AL odds list are Casey Mize and Jesus Luzardo, both at +600, and Brendan McKay at +1000.
Adell, Pearson could be AL value picks
Two value picks in the AL could be Jo Adell at +1400 and Nate Pearson at +2000.
Adell has been the Angels’ top prospect for a couple of years now and finally looks ready to take over the starting job in right field. If he can find his footing right away, he could make a run for the award.
Pearson is supposed to be the future ace of the Toronto Blue Jays. During spring training, it looked like the future is now. A shortened campaign could see Pearson crack the Toronto rotation this season. If he does, and he dominates like he did in spring training, he could be worth taking a flyer on for bettors.
