2020 Northern Trust Betting Odds Preview

The FedExCup playoffs begin this week with the Northern Trust at TPC Boston.

The favorite this week at Bovada Sportsbook is Bryson DeChambeau at +1200. In his last tournament, the PGA Championship, DeChambeau finished in fourth place in the season’s first major. That was his eighth top-five finish of the season and fifth since the tour resumed following the COVID-19 break.

DeChambeau favorite to win Northern Trust again

DeChambeau won the Northern Trust in 2018 when it was held at Ridgewood in New Jersey. DeChambeau has also won at TPC Boston before. The course formerly hosted the Dell Technologies Championship that he won in 2018.

Following DeChambeau on the odds list at Bovada are Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy, all at +1400.

Rahm, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world right now, posted his first win of the season last month at the Memorial for his lone top-10 finish since the tour resumed play. At the PGA Championship, he tied for 13th.

Invitational winner Thomas leads FedExCup standings

Thomas enters the FedExCup playoffs atop the standings. He won the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational three weeks ago, but followed that up by finishing tied for 37th in the PGA Championship. Thomas has won at TPC Boston before, winning the Dell Technologies Championship in 2017.

McIlroy continues to look for the success he had before the tour break. Prior to the hiatus, he had posted six straight top-five finishes. Since the tour resumed, his best finish is an 11th-place tie at the Travelers Championship. In the PGA Championship, he was not in contention and tied for 33rd place. Playing at TPC Boston may help him get back on track. McIlroy has won on the course twice, in 2012 and 2016.

Defending champ Reed also won tourney in 2016

The defending champion of the Northern Trust is Patrick Reed. He shot 16 under par at Liberty National last year to best Abraham Ancer by one stroke. Reed also won the Northern Trust in 2016 at Bethpage Black, and he’s a +2800 underdog at Bovada to win the tournament for the third time this week.

The odds on other former Northern Trust winners this week include two-time winner Dustin Johnson at +2000, Jason Day at +2200 and Adam Scott at +5000.

Former winners at TPC Boston in this week’s field include Webb Simpson at +2800, Tiger Woods at +4000, Rickie Fowler at +5000 and Phil Mickelson at +12500.
