2022 PGA Championship Betting Odds Preview
The PGA tees off for the second major of the season this week as the tour’s best head to Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the PGA Championship.
The favorite in this event at Bovada Sportsbook is Scottie Scheffler at +1100, followed by Jon Rahm at +1400.
Scheffler claimed his first major championship earlier this year at the Masters. That was his fourth title this year after he previously won the WM Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC Match Play.
World No. 1 Scheffler favored to win fifth tournament of year
The current No. 1 golfer in the world, Scheffler has posted back-to-back top-10 finishes in the PGA Championship, tying for fourth in 2020 and tying for eighth in 2021.
Rahm, who is ranked No. 2 in the world, recorded his first win of the year earlier this month in the Mexico Open. He finished tied for eighth place in the PGA Championship last year, and his best career finish in the tournament came in 2018 when he tied for fourth place.
Following Scheffler and Rahm on the odds list at Bovada are Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy at +1600, while Jordan Spieth rounds out the top five at +1800.
Thomas, McIlroy have previous PGA Championship wins
Thomas’ lone major win came in the PGA Championship in 2017 when it was held at Quail Hollow. He has posted six top-10 finishes in his last 10 PGA stops, but he’s still looking for his first win of 2022.
McIlroy is a two-time PGA Championship winner, previously winning in 2012 at Kiawah Island and in 2014 at Valhalla. McIlroy finished second at the Masters earlier this year and followed that up with a fifth-place finish in his last tour stop at the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this month. He hasn’t won a major since his 2014 PGA Championship win, but since then he has posted 14 top-10 major finishes.
Spieth is coming off a second-place finish in last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson. Before that he posted his first win on tour this season in the RBC Heritage. The PGA Championship is the only major that Spieth hasn’t won. He’s come close a few times, including finishing second in 2015 and tying for third in 2019.
Reigning champion withdraws in aftermath of interview
The reigning PGA Championship winner won’t be back this year to defend his title. Phil Mickelson shocked the golf world last year by winning at Kiawah Island, but he withdrew from this year’s event last week as he continues to deal with the fallout around his disastrous LIV tour interview.
Along with Thomas and McIlroy, there are several former PGA Championship winners in the field this week. They are 2020 winner Collin Morikawa (+2000), two-time winner Brooks Koepka (+4000), 2015 winner Jason Day (+8000), 2013 winner Jason Dufner (+75000), 2011 winner Keagan Bradley (+8000) and four-time winner Tiger Woods (+7000).
