Army vs. Navy Betting Odds and Preview
A longstanding tradition continues this weekend as the Army Black Knights take on the Navy Midshipmen in the annual Army-Navy game.
The Army-Navy game dates back to 1890 and in 116 matches since Navy holds the edge at 60-49-7.
The battle has been dominated by Navy for more than a decade now, with the Midshipmen having won 14 straight games against the rival Black Knights. In those 14 games Navy was 8-6 against the spread and they enter this weekend’s matchup as a 6-point favorite at the Bovada sportsbook.
Last season Navy was a 21-point favorite and failed to cover in a 21-17 win over Army.
Navy was a much bigger favorite for this week originally, opening as 11-point chalk. That was before they met up with the Temple Owls in last week’s AAC Championship Game. Navy was a 1-point favorite in that game, but ended up getting hammered 34-10. That snapped a four-game winning streak for Navy, during which they were 3-0-1 ATS.
Not only did Navy lose the game, they also lost quarterback Will Worth and running back Toneo Galley to injury. Both are out this weekend, moving the line and leaving Zach Abey to start at quarterback for the first time in his college career.
Abey won’t have to worry about throwing much at least. Navy runs the triple option offense which means they run the ball a lot. This season Navy averaged 327.5 rushing yards per game, second overall in the nation.
Army is 6-5 SU and ATS on the season and last time out obliterated the Morgan State Bears 60-3 as a 43.5-point favorite. The Black Knights rushed for 504 yards in the win, with Andy Davidson and Cole Macek each posting a pair of rushing touchdowns.
The Black Knights also rely heavily on the run and averaged 328.7 rushing yards per game this season. They are heading to a bowl game despite stumbling down the stretch and posting a 3-5 record SU and ATS in their last eight games. No matter what happens this weekend the Black Knights will face the North Texas Mean Green in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
Navy’s bowl game has also already been decided and they’ll get the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the Armed Forces Bowl.
