College Football Week 9 Betting Preview
Three major Top 25 matchups highlight the Week 9 schedule in college football, starting with a Big Ten clash between the No. 13 Wisconsin Badgers and the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes.
At Bovada Sportsbook, the Buckeyes are a 14.5-point home favorite. Ohio State is coming off a 52-3 blowout win over the Northwestern Wildcats as a 27-point favorite. That was the Buckeyes’ sixth straight win against the spread. Ohio State has won 13 in a row straight up at 9-4 ATS, and at home has won 17 straight while going 9-8 ATS.
Wisconsin had a seven-game winning streak snapped last week in a 24-23 upset loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini as a 29.5-point favorite. Against Ohio State, the Badgers have lost six straight at 1-5 ATS, including their December 2017 contest when they fell to the Buckeyes 27-21 as a 3.5-point home underdog.
Auburn has lost 9 straight in Death Valley
In the SEC on Saturday, the No. 9 Auburn Tigers face the No. 2 LSU Tigers as an 11-point road underdog.
Auburn is 6-1 SU and ATS on the season following last week’s 51-10 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks as a 19.5-point favorite. On the road, Auburn is 3-4 SU and ATS in its last seven and at LSU has lost nine straight while going 3-6 ATS.
LSU is 7-0 SU and 5-1-1 ATS after defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs 36-13 as a 19.5-point favorite last week. In its last 11, LSU is 10-1 SU and 7-3-1 ATS, while at home the team is 13-1 SU and 8-5-1 ATS in its last 14.
Last season, LSU defeated Auburn 22-21 as a 10-point road underdog.
Fighting Irish have lost 7 of last 8 as underdog
Also on the Saturday schedule, the No. 8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit the No. 19 Michigan Wolverines as a 1-point underdog.
Notre Dame is coming off a bye week and in its last game failed to cover as a 10.5-point favorite in a 30-27 win over the USC Trojans. The Fighting Irish are 5-1 SU and 3-2-1 ATS in their last six road games, but as an underdog they’re a lousy 1-7 SU and 4-4 ATS in their last eight.
Michigan fell to the Penn State Nittany Lions 28-21 as a 7.5-point underdog last week. Despite the cover, the Wolverines are still only 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games. At home Michigan has won 11 straight while going 7-4 ATS.
Last season, Notre Dame defeated Michigan 24-17 as a 3-point home underdog. In this matchup, the home team is 5-0 SU and ATS in the last five.
