Falcons look to stop Packers at Lambeau on Monday night
The Atlanta Falcons are just 2-4 straight-up and 1-5 against the spread on the road this season, making it a tall task to say the least to get past a Green Bay Packers team on Monday night that is a perfect 6-0 SU (5-0-1 ATS) at home. And the oddsmakers must agree, given that 5Dimes has listed Atlanta as a 14-point 'dog with the total at 55.5.
The good news about the Falcons’ 5-7 losing record (both SU and ATS) is that it is good enough to hold a share of the lead in the woeful NFC South. They come into this game with three SU wins in their last four games after beating Arizona 29-18 last Sunday as 1.5-point home underdogs. Atlanta is an even 3-3 ATS as an underdog this season and the total has gone OVER in their last two games after staying UNDER in their previous six contests.
The Packers have established themselves as the odds-on favorite to win this year’s Super Bowl on the 5Dimes NFL futures, and for good reason. At 9-3 SU (7-4-1 ATS) on the year, they are tied for the best record in the NFC. Last Sunday’s impressive 26-21 victory against New England as 1.5-point home favorites was Green Bay’s eighth SU win in its last nine games while going a profitable 7-2 ATS. The total has now stayed UNDER in the last two games after going OVER in its previous seven outings.
With Matt Ryan under center, the Falcons are ranked sixth in the NFL in passing with an average of 276.8 yards a game. The offense is averaging a respectable 24.2 points a game, but Atlanta has had some major issues with a defense that is ranked dead-last in the league in yards allowed.
Green Bay has been a scoring machine behind its quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He has been at top form the past two months to become the clear front-runner to win this season’s MVP award. The end result has been a Packers offense that is currently ranked second in the NFL in scoring at 31.7 points.
Atlanta is just 2-8 ATS in its last 10 road games as an underdog, but it does have a 6-3 edge ATS in its last nine games against Green Bay. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last four meetings between the Falcons and the Packers.
