FedEx St. Jude Championship Odds Preview

The FedEx Cup playoffs begin this week with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southland in Memphis, Tennessee.

This week’s field is limited to the Top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings and only the Top 50 in the standings following the FedEx St. Jude Championship will advance to the next event. Heading into this week the leader in the FedEx Cup standings is Jon Rahm. He’s not the favorite this week though.

At the Bovada Sportsbook the favorite is Scottie Scheffler at +650 odds. He’s followed by Rahm at +900 and Rory Mcllroy at +1000.

Scheffler had a streak of seven straight Top-5 finishes snapped at the British Open a few weeks ago when he tied for 28th place. Scheffler has been incredibly consistent this season with 12 Top-5 finishes which includes wins in the WM Phoenix Open and the PLAYERS Championship. Last year in the St. Jude Scheffler unexpectedly missed the cut.

Rahm is coming off tying for second place at the British Open which was his first Top-5 finish since April. Rahm has four wins this season, including the Masters. Last year at the St. Jude he was in contention and ended up tying for fifth place,

McIlroy is the defending FedEx Cup champion. He’s been in contention every week recently with seven straight Top-10 finishes which includes tying for sixth at the British Open. Despite winning the FedEx Cup last season McIlroy actually missed the cut in the St. Jude.

Defending tournament champion not in the field this week

The defending champion of the St. Jude will not be back to defend his title. Last year Will Zalatoris shot 15-under par and defeated Sepp Straka in a playoff to win the tournament. Zalatoris hasn’t played since April after having back surgery and in not expected to play again on Tour this season. Straka is in the field as a +4500 underdog.

The only former winners of the St. Jude in the field this week are Tony Finau and Jason Day. Finau won in 2021 when the event was held at Liberty National and is a +3500 underdog to win again, while Day won in 2015 at Edison and is listed at +4000 odds.

The odds on a few other notables this week include Viktor Hovland at +1800, Collin Morikawa at +2000, Rickie Fowler at +3000, Wyndham Clark at +3500, and Max Homa, who’s currently fourth in the FedEx Cup standings, at +4000.
