Hot Pirates Seek Payouts Against the Twins
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 3-1 over their last four games and 15-8 over their last 23 games. The Pirates will try to pick up some road wins in interleague play this week in a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins starting on Tuesday.
Pittsburgh is a -120 road favorite in Tuesday's series opener according to online sportsbook Bovada. Charlie Morton will take the mound against Mike Pelfrey and the Twins who are going off at +100 at home. The Twins are just 2-6 over their last eight games and 1-4 in their last five games with Mike Pelfrey starting. Pittsburgh will try to break out of a 1-5 road slump over its last six road games.
First place in the AL West will be up for grabs this week as the first place Los Angeles Angels visit the second place Houston Astros for a three-game series starting on Tuesday. Both teams have been playing well of late with the Angels going 18-6 over their last 24 games and the Astros going 5-2 over their last seven. Los Angeles is a +102 underdog on Tuesday with CJ Wilson squaring off against Collin McHugh and the Astros at -122. Houston is 5-1 in its last six home games against the Angels.
The Tampa Bay Rays started off their three-game home series against the Detroit Tigers on Monday with a 5-2 win. With both teams hovering just under .500 but still alive in the AL Wild Card race, the next two games in this series could be very important. Tuesday's game is close to a pick'em with the Tigers a slight -113 favorite at Bovada as David Price takes on Jake Odorizzi. Price is 6-1 with a 1.65 ERA on the road this season.
The Quicken Loans National tournament is hosted by Tiger Woods each year, and it gets underway this Thursday in Gainesville, Virginia. The tournament has a bit of star power in its two betting favorites with defending champion Justin Rose going off at +925 to win again and Rickie Fowler participating as well at +1025. Host Tiger Woods has won the event twice before and is a +5700 long shot to win it again this year.
