John Deere Classic Betting Preview
Bettors have another mediocre field to pick through this week as the PGA Tour heads to TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois for the John Deere Classic.
This week’s field does not include any golfers ranked in the Top 10 of the World Golf Rankings. The top-ranked golfer in the field is Cameron Young, who is No. 19 in the world. However, Young is not the favorite at the Bovada Sportsbook. That honor goes to Denny McCarthy at +1400. Young comes in at +1800, which also puts him behind Russell Henley who’s listed at +1600.
McCarthy does not have a PGA Tour win on his resume but he came close last month at The Memorial Tournament when he lost to Viktor Hovland in a playoff. In his most recent tournament, the Travelers Championship, McCarthy finished tied for seventh which was his fourth top-10 finish this year.
Henley posted his fourth career PGA Tour win back in November in the World Wide Technology Championship. He tied for 19th at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago and has recorded only one top-10 finish this year when he tied for fourth at the Masters.
Young has struggled lately with his best finish in his last seven tournaments being a tie for 32nd place at the U.S. Open. During that seven-tournament stretch Young also missed the cut twice. His lone top-10 finish this year came at the Masters where he tied for seventh.
Defending champion Poston sits back on odds board
The defending champion of the John Deere Classic is J.T. Poston. Last year Poston shot 21-under-par to best Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo by three strokes. Poston has missed the cut in his last two tournaments and in five of his last seven which is why he is a +4500 underdog to repeat at TPC Deere Run this week.
Along with Poston other former winners of the John Deere Classic in this week’s field include 2021 winner Lucas Glover (+7500), 2019 winner Dylan Frittelli (+20000), 2018 winner Michael Kim (+6000), 2016 winner Ryan Moore (+15000), and 2012 winner Zach Johnson (+8000).
The John Deere Classic field also includes a few other golfers that have won tournaments this season including Henley. That also includes Honda Classic winner Chris Kirk (+3000), Charles Schwab Challenge winner Emiliano Grillo (+3000), and Canadian Open winner Nick Taylor (+4000).
