March Madness Final Four Betting Preview
We're down to four teams in March Madness, as the Final Four tips off this weekend in Arizona. Two No. 1 seeds have made it within a win of the title game, while the other two Final Four slot holders were unexpected.
The Final Four matchups are the No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. the No. 7 South Carolina Gamecocks, and the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels vs. the No. 3 Oregon Ducks.
The Tar Heels head into the Final Four as the favorite at +140 on the NCAA Tournament odds at the Bovada sportsbook. They're followed by Gonzaga at +180, Oregon at +550, and South Carolina at +750.
Also at Bovada the Tar Heels are a 4.5-point favorite against the Ducks. Luke Maye sent North Carolina into the Final Four with a game-winning buzzer beater in their 75-73 win over the Kentucky Wildcats in the Elite Eight. The Tar Heels were a 2-point favorite in the win and delivered a push for bettors. Through the first four rounds of the NCAA Tournament North Carolina is 2-1-1 against the spread.
Oregon was a 6.5-point underdog in their Elite Eight matchup with the Kansas Jayhawks and shocked Kansas with a 74-60 upset victory. They improved to 3-1 ATS in the tournament and have rode the hot hand of Tyler Dorsey to the Final Four. Dorset netted 27 points against Kansas and is averaging 24.5 points per game in the tournament.
The only recent clash between North Carolina and Oregon was back in 2008 when the Tar Heels crushed the Ducks 98-69 as a 16-point favorite. Interestingly, the Ducks are 11-0 straight up after losing the previous game in a matchup.
In the other Saturday matchup the Bulldogs are a 6.5-point favorite versus the Gamecocks.
South Carolina has been a giant killer in the tournament, having already knocked out pre-tournament favorite the Duke Blue Devils and defeating higher seeds the Baylor Bears and the Florida Gators. They were a 3-point underdog versus Florida in the Elite Eight and posted a 77-70 win. The Gamecocks are a perfect 4-0 ATS in the tournament with three wins as the underdog.
The Bulldogs put an end to the Xavier Musketeers' Cinderella run with an 83-59 beatdown in the Elite Eight as an 8.5-point favorite. That was Gonzaga's first win ATS in the tournament after going 0-2-1 in the first three rounds. Gonzaga has won seven in a row SU but they're only 3-3-1 ATS during the streak.
Totals bettors may like the UNDER in this one. Gonzaga is 4-1 UNDER in their last five games when favored, while South Carolina is an astounding 21-9 UNDER in their last 30 games as an underdog.
