MLB Betting: Astros Set to Play Host to A's
American League West rivals will continue a three-game series on Tuesday night when the division-leading Houston Astros host the Oakland Athletics.
Houston headed into the series opener on Monday night having won five straight games. They were also 8-1 in their last nine games at home. The Athletics were 8-2 in their last 10 games and 3-3 in their last six games on the road.
In eight matchups this season between the Astros and Athletics, Houston had dominated with seven wins heading into Monday night. At home Houston had won four in a row against Oakland.
Tuesday’s scheduled pitching matchup is Mike Fiers (9-3, 3.64 ERA) for Oakland and Wade Miley (8-4, 3.25 ERA) for Houston.
Fiers has faced Houston twice this season and owns an 0-0 record despite an 8.64 ERA. In five career starts against them he is 1-2 with a 6.15 ERA. Miley is 1-1 with a 1.54 ERA in two starts against Oakland this season. In seven career starts against the Athletics he is a solid 5-2 with a 1.61 ERA.
Red Sox, Rays clash in AL East division battle
In the American League East on Tuesday night a pair of teams fighting for the AL Wild Card clash when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox continued to have trouble putting together a win streak with a 4-5 mark in their last nine games heading into Monday's action. The Rays are crashing at the wrong time, at 1-5 in their last six games prior to Monday.
In nine matchups between the Rays and Red Sox this season the Rays had a slight edge with five wins before Monday's series opener, while in Tampa Bay the Red Sox were a perfect 3-0 this season and 8-4 in their last 12 games.
On tap to pitch Tuesday night are Chris Sale (4-9, 4.05 ERA) for Boston and Yonny Chirinos (8-5, 3.29 ERA) for Tampa Bay.
Sale faced Tampa Bay back on April 28 and took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in seven innings. Boston lost 5-2 as -135 favorites at the Bovada Sportsbook. In 19 career games against the Rays, Sale is 9-6 with a 2.94 ERA.

Also on the schedule on Tuesday, the surging San Francisco Giants will look to knock off the Chicago Cubs.
The Giants were 8-1 in their last nine games heading into Monday's action, while the Cubs were 4-1 in their last five but only 2-5 in their last seven on the road.
The pitching matchup on Tuesday is Yu Darvish (3-4, 4.46 ERA) for Chicago and Madison Bumgarner (5-7, 3.65 ERA) for San Francisco.
Darvish posted his first win since April in his last start, tossing six shutout innings against the Cincinnati Reds. Chicago won 5-2 as -127 betting favorites.
Bumgarner is coming off a nine-inning performance against the New York Mets in which he allowed one run on five hits. The Giants won 3-2 in extra innings as a -125 favorite. In 13 career games against the Cubs, Bumgarner is 9-2 with a 2.17 ERA.
