MLB Betting Preview: BoSox Chalk at Fenway
Chris Sale will hope for some better luck and some run support on Tuesday night when he leads the Boston Red Sox against the visiting Baltimore Orioles in key baseball betting action.
Sale (1-2, 1.19 ERA), could be 5-0 right now if the Red Sox had supplied him with a little run support. In his five starts this season Sale has allowed a total of six runs, but Boston has scored only 10 runs. Last time out Sale took the loss in a 3-0 Boston defeat against the New York Yankees after allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out 10 over eight innings.
Baltimore is expected to hand the ball to inexperienced Alec Asher (1-0, 2.16 ERA). This will be his second start of the season after pitching out of the bullpen for most of April. In his only start he recorded a no decision against the Toronto Blue Jays after allowing one run on three hits over 6 1-3 innings.
The Orioles and Red Sox have already clashed five times this season with the Orioles leading the season series 3-2. At the Bovada Sportsbook the Red Sox are a -140 favorite on the AL East futures while Baltimore is a +450 underdog. Boston is also a -212 favorite for Tuesday night.
In the AL Central this week rivals clash when the Detroit Tigers host the Cleveland Indians. In the second game of the series Tuesday night former Cy Young award winners face off when Corey Kluber (3-1, 4.19 ERA) takes the mound against the Tigers’ Justin Verlander (1-2, 4.60 ERA).
Kluber was strong in his last start against the Houston Astros, allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings with 10 strikeouts to pick up the win. Verlander earned a hard-luck no-decision against the Seattle Mainers last time out after allowing one unearned run on five hits over seven innings.
Kluber and Verlander previously faced off this season in mid-April; both pitchers ended up getting shelled in a 13-6 Cleveland win. Kluber did get the win despite allowing six runs over 6 1-3 innings. Verlander lasted only four innings after giving up nine runs on 11 hits.
The latest AL Central futures at the Bovada Sportsbook list Cleveland as a heavy favorite at -600. Detroit is a +475 underdog.
In the National League on Tuesday night the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers meet up again after splitting a four-game set last week. Tuesday’s scheduled pitching matchup is Matt Moore (1-3, 4.80 ERA) for San Francisco and Alex Wood (1-0, 2.29 ERA) for Los Angeles.
Last week against the Dodgers Moore allowed only one run on two hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision. Wood also came away with a no-decision last week against the Giants after tossing six shutout innings.
