Monday Night Football Preview

The notion has been bouncing around the heads of football fans ever since Kevin Kolb went down in Week 1. And with every Sunday, it seems more and more of a possibility.

Michael Vick could be the NFL’s next MVP.

Of course, the league would face a huge PR struggle if Vick, the convicted dog fighter, actually did win the NFL’s top individual honor. Even the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is playing off the growing MVP buzz. He told reporters that he lost focus after he was mentioned among MVP candidates while with the Atlanta Falcons in 2002 and doesn’t want to consider it at all.

But after leading the Eagles to a 5-3 mark (3-5 ATS), including a 26-24 win over reigning MVP Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9, it’s tough not to think that Vick is the most deserving player for the award.

He would definitely boost his case if he can put together another memorable performance when Philadelphia visits the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. Oddsmakers at BetUS seemed convinced, setting Vick and the Eagles as 3-point road favorites.

The last time Vick faced the Redskins things didn’t go so well in a 17-12 defeat as 5-point home chalk. He was sandwiched on a hard hit during a scramble to the end zone, suffering cartilage damage in his chest that put him on the shelf for four weeks. However, he bounced back in his return, passing for 218 yards and rushing for 70 more while combining for two scores against the Colts.

Before getting hurt in the first quarter versus Washington, Vick went 5 for 7 for 49 yards passing and totaled 17 rushing yards. The Redskins' defense would have been in for a long day if No. 7 had stayed on the field. And even when Vick was sidelined in Week 4’s matchup, Kolb took over and picked up 21 yards on just two QB keepers.

Washington has yet to face a dual-threat QB like Vick this season, going up against pocket passers like Aaron Rodgers, Matt Schaub, and Peyton Manning. Football bettors can expect to see an MVP-caliber performance from Vick on the big Monday night stage in Week 10.
