NFL Week 2 Betting Preview and Analysis
After suffering opening-week losses the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins will look to get back on track when the division rivals clash in Washington in Week 2 of the NFL season.
Dallas started the season with a 20-19 loss to the New York Giants as a 1-point home underdog. The loss was the Cowboys’ fifth in a row straight up, a run during which they're 0-3-2 against the spread.
Washington fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 38-16 as a 2.5-point underdog. The high score made it six straight OVER results on the posted total for the Redskins.
Dallas is 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS in their last six games against Washington, but in their last 12 matchups the Cowboys are 7-5 SU and 3-9 ATS. Washington is a 3.5-point favorite at online sportsbook Bovada, but in the last 10 matchups between the Cowboys and Redskins the favorite is only 6-4 SU and 3-7 ATS.
Sticking with divisional matchups, in the NFC North the Minnesota Vikings play host to the Green Bay Packers as a 2.5-point underdog this week.
The Packers got past the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-23 last week, but failed to cover the 4.5-point spread. Minnesota was a 2.5-point road favorite against the Tennessee Titans last week in a 25-16 win.
Green Bay is 10-2-1 SU and 8-5 ATS in their last 13 games versus the Vikings and 5-1 SU and 3-3 ATS in their last six games in Minnesota. For totals bettors the total has gone UNDER in the last three between the Packers and Vikings and Minnesota is 7-3 UNDER in their last 10 home games.
Rounding out our look at Week 2 division matchups is an AFC East clash between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots.
New England didn’t miss a beat last week despite missing both Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. The Patriots were a 9.5-point underdog against the Arizona Cardinals and pulled off a 23-21 upset win. At home this week the Patriots are a 6.5-point favorite.
Miami looked like they were headed for a massive upset over the Seattle Seahawks before surrendering the lead late and losing 12-10 as a 10.5-point underdog. Miami posted an UNDER for totals bettors and are now 7-2 UNDER in their last nine games.
The Dolphins upset the Patriots 20-10 as a 10-point underdog the last time they met, but Miami is only 3-9 SU but 7-4-1 ATS in their last 12 against them. At home the Patriots are 7-0 SU and 2-5 ATS in their last seven versus Miami.
