NFL Week 3 Betting Preview and Trends
A clash between two of the league’s top offenses, a massive spread and two teams trying to recover from losing their starting quarterback highlight Sunday’s schedule in Week 3 of the NFL.
Starting things off is the Baltimore Ravens at the Kansas City Chiefs in a battle of early-season high-powered offenses. At Bovada Sportsbook, the Chiefs are a 7-point home favorite.
The Chiefs rolled over the Oakland Raiders 28-10 as a 7-point favorite last week. Kansas City is 4-1 straight up and against the spread in its last five games, and in September the Chiefs are 9-0 SU and ATS in their last nine games.
Baltimore got past the Arizona Cardinals 23-17 last week but failed to cover as a 13-point favorite. On the road, the Ravens have won four straight ATS, and they’re 9-3 ATS in their last 12.
Last season the Chiefs edged the Ravens 27-24 as a 6.5-point favorite. In this matchup, the visiting team is 7-2 SU and ATS in the last nine.
Patriots favored to win another in blowout fashion
The biggest spread in Week 3 belongs to the New England Patriots, who are 24-point favorites at home to the New York Jets.
The Patriots shut out the Miami Dolphins 43-0 as an 18-point favorite last week. New England has won 17 straight at home while going 14-3 ATS, and when favored by 20 or more points, the Patriots are 4-0 SU and 0-4 ATS.
The Jets are 0-2 SU and ATS on the season following a 23-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns as 6.5-point underdogs last week. Overall the Jets have lost five straight at 0-4-1 ATS and they’re 1-11 SU and 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12.
New England has won six straight against New York at 4-2 ATS, and at home vs the Jets, the Pats have won eight in a row at 4-3-1 ATS.
Brees-less Saints have lost 7 in a row ATS
The New Orleans Saints begin life without Drew Brees against the Seattle Seahawks this week as 4.5-point road underdogs.
The Saints have lost seven straight ATS while going 4-3 SU. As a road underdog, they’re 2-4 SU and 3-3 ATS in their last six.
Seattle was a 4-point underdog last week in a 28-26 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. At home, the Seahawks have won six straight at 3-2-1 ATS, but as a home favorite they’ve lost three straight ATS.
Steelers are 7-point road dogs minus Big Ben
The Pittsburgh Steelers face the same problem as the Saints, without Ben Roethlisberger, as they visit the San Francisco 49ers as a 7-point road underdog.
The Steelers are 2-6 SU and ATS in their last eight games. However, as an underdog, they’re a surprising 5-1 ATS in their last six.
The 49ers upset the Cincinnati Bengals 41-17 as a 1-point underdog last week to improve to 2-0 SU and ATS. As a home favorite, the 49ers have been a terrible bet, having lost 11 straight ATS.
