NFL Week 8 Betting Preview and Trends
Two teams remain perfect in the NFL heading into Week 8 and both play at home as favorites on Sunday.
We’ll start with the undefeated New England Patriots, who are entertaining the Cleveland Browns. At Bovada Sportsbook, the Patriots are a 13.5-point favorite.
Last week New England improved to 7-0 straight up and 5-2 against the spread by blanking the New York Jets 33-0 as a 9.5-point favorite. The Patriots have won 12 straight overall at 9-3 ATS, and at home they’ve won 19 in a row while going 15-4 ATS.
The Browns are coming off their bye week at 2-4 SU and ATS on the season. However, on the road they’re a profitable 4-1 ATS in their last five. As a double-digit underdog, the Browns have lost 19 in a row at 8-11 ATS.
Niners are 2-15 ATS in last 17 games as favorite
The NFL’s other undefeated team, the San Francisco 49ers host the Carolina Panthers this week as a 6-point favorite.
The 49ers got past the Washington Redskins 9-0 in wild weather last week but failed to cover as 10-point favorites. On the season they’re 4-2 ATS, and when favored they are 2-15 ATS in their last 17 games.
Carolina is coming off its bye and has won four straight both SU and ATS. The Panthers have also won four straight on the road and in their last 11 road games they’re 8-3 ATS. In their last eight games against the 49ers, the Panthers are 7-1 ATS. In Carolina, the Panthers are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 vs San Francisco.
Packers have only covered once in last 9 night games
On Sunday night in Week 8, the Green Bay Packers are 4-point road favorites against the injury-depleted Kansas City Chiefs.
Green Bay is 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS after defeating the Oakland Raiders 42-24 as a 5.5-point favorite last week. On the road the Packers have won three straight SU and ATS, but in their last 12 road games they’re 3-9 SU and 4-7-1 ATS. In their last nine night games, the Packers are 1-7-1 ATS.
The Chiefs got past the Denver Broncos 30-6 as a 3-point favorite last week but it cost them starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. At home the Chiefs are 3-7 ATS in their last 10, and as a home underdog they’re 2-7 SU and 4-5 ATS in their last nine.
In the last eight matchups between the Packers and Chiefs, Kansas City is 6-2 SU and ATS. At home to the Packers, the Chiefs are 3-1 SU and ATS in their last four.
