Panthers Broncos Super Bowl Odds Preview
The opening odds for Super Bowl 50 listed the Carolina Panthers as a 3.5-point favorite against the Denver Broncos, while the total opened at 44 points.
Neither of the odds stayed that way long. The latest odds at online sportsbook Bovada have the Panthers listed as 6-point chalk, and the total has risen to 45 at online sportsbook 5Dimes.
The Panthers' playoff run so far has included wins over Seattle and Arizona. Carolina held on for a 31-24 win over the Seahawks as a 2.5-point favorite and completely dominated the Cardinals in a 49-15 victory as a 3-point favorite.
Denver posted a push in their 23-16 win over Pittsburgh as a 7-point favorite in their playoff opener. In what could be the final faceoff between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady the Broncos then prevailed over New England 20-18 as a 3-point underdog.
The Broncos will be playing in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years. They’ll hope for a better result than in Super Bowl XLVII when they were blasted by Seattle 43-8 as a 2-point favorite. Denver has appeared in the Super Bowl seven times previously, posting a 2-5 record both SU and ATS.
Carolina’s only been to the big game once before in 2004 in Super Bowl XXXVIII. They lost to New England 32-29 as a 7-point underdog.
The Broncos and Panthers have met up only four times previously and obviously none of those games were in the postseason. Denver has taken three of those four matchups while going 2-2 ATS. The last time they met was in 2012 in Carolina when Denver rolled to a 36-14 win as a 3.5-point road favorite.
In five games as the underdog this season Denver has been very successful at 4-1 SU and 4-0-1 ATS. In their last 10 games as the favorite the Panthers are 9-1 SU and 5-5 ATS.
