PGA Betting: Genesis Invitational Preview
A loaded field featuring most of golf’s best heads to Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, this week for the Genesis Invitational.
At Bovada Sportsbook, the favorite at the Invitational is Dustin Johnson at +550. Johnson won the Invitational in 2017 and has come close on numerous occasions, including back-to-back second-place finishes in 2014 and 2015. Johnson withdrew last week at Pebble Beach and in his last tournament, the European Tour’s Saudi International, he topped the leaderboard.
Johnson favored in Genesis Invitational betting odds
Following Johnson on the odds list at Bovada are a trio of golfers – Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas – at +1200.
Rahm is still looking for his first win of the season and has tied for seventh three times. His last tournament was the Phoenix Open two weeks ago, when he tied for 13th place.
McIlroy is also looking for his first win of the season, but he has posted a pair of top-five finishes. His last tour stop was also in Phoenix, where he finished tied for 13th with Rahm.
Thomas was also part of the group tied for 13th in Phoenix. Like McIlroy, he has two top-five finishes this season but has yet to secure his first win.
Scott a +3000 underdog to get third Genesis win
The defending champion of the Invitational is Adam Scott. Last year he shot 11 under par for a two-stroke victory. That was Scott’s second Invitational win as he also won 15 years earlier, in 2005. As well, he finished second in 2006 and 2016. At Bovada, Scott is a +3000 underdog to win a third Invitational this week.
Last week on tour at Pebble Beach, Daniel Berger shot 18 under par to record his first win of the season and his third top-10 finish. This week at Bovada, he’s a +2800 underdog to go back to back at the Invitational.
Along with Johnson and Scott, other former Invitational winners in the field this week include 2019 winner J.B. Holmes (+25000), three-time winner Bubba Watson (+4000) and 2015 winner James Hahn (+10000).
Spieth coming off strong showing at Pebble Beach
The odds on a few other notables this week include Xander Schauffele at +1400, Bryson DeChambeau at +1600, Brooks Koepka at +2200 and Collin Morikawa at +2800.
One underdog who might be worth taking a flyer on this week is Jordan Spieth at +3300. The inconsistent Spieth delivered one of his best showings in years last week at Pebble Beach, where he finished in third place, three strokes behind Berger.
