PGA Betting: Honda Classic Odds Preview
The PGA’s swing through Florida continues this week as the tour heads to PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, for the Honda Classic.
At Bovada Sportsbook, the favorite this week is Daniel Berger at +1000. Berger recorded his fourth career PGA Tour win earlier this year at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Last week, he tied for ninth at the Players Championship despite dealing with a rib issue. Reportedly, the issue may cause Berger to withdraw this week, so keep an eye on his status before making your bets.
Tournament favorite’s rib injury bears watching
Following Berger on the odds list at Bovada are Sungjae Im at +1400, Joaquin Niemann at +1600, Lee Westwood at +2000 and Adam Scott at +2500 to round out the top five.
Im is the defending champion of the Honda Classic. Last year he shot 6 under par to edge Mackenzie Hughes by one stroke. Im tied for 17th place last week at the Players and has only one top-10 finish so far this year, tying for fifth place in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in early January.
Niemann finished second in back-to-back tournaments in January but has had trouble replicating that success lately. Last week at the Players, he tied for 29th place.
Westwood has consecutive runner-up finishes
The 47-year-old Westwood has turned back the clock lately with back-to-back second-place finishes in his last two tournaments, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players. In another interesting note, Westwood finished tied for fourth in the Honda Classic last year. If he continues to play well, he could be worth a bet since this week’s field lacks the big names he has matched up with the last two weeks like Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau.
Scott won the Honda Classic back in 2016. He hasn’t challenged many leaderboards this season with only one top-10 finish. Last week at the Players, he shot over 70 in all four rounds and finished tied for 48th.
Players champion not in this week’s field
Westwood is the top finisher from the Players in the field this week, as tournament winner Justin Thomas is not competing. Brian Harman, who tied for third at the Players last week two strokes behind Thomas, is a +3300 underdog at Bovada in the Honda Classic.
Along with Im, other former Honda Classic winners in the field this week include 2019 winner Keith Mitchell (+10000), 2017 winner Rickie Fowler (+5000), 2015 and 2005 winner Padraig Harrington (+20000), 2014 winner Russell Henley (+2800) and 2013 winner Michael Thompson (+8000).
