PGA Betting: John Deere Classic Odds Preview

After a one-year absence due to the pandemic, the PGA Tour returns to TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, this week for the John Deere Classic.

At Bovada Sportsbook, the favorite this week is Daniel Berger at +900. He’s followed by Brian Harman and Sungjae Im, both at +1400.

Berger hasn’t played a tour event since the U.S. Open three weeks ago, when he turned in a solid final round to tie for seventh place. This season, Berger has one win – at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February – and he’s posted six top-10 finishes.

Favorite Berger seeking second tour win of year

Harman won the John Deere Classic in 2014. That was his first PGA Tour win and he’s since added one more, at the Wells Fargo Championship in 2017. He has cracked the top eight in two of his last three tournaments, including tying for fifth at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago. This year, Harman has finished in the top 10 five times.

Im tied for eighth last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, ending a rough stretch that saw him miss the cut in five of his previous 10 tournaments. His best finish during that stretch was tying for 17th at the PGA Championship.

Frittelli shot 21 under to win 2019 tournament

Since last year’s John Deere Classic was canceled, the defending champion this year is Dylan Frittelli. In 2019, he shot 21 under par at Deere Run to finish two shots ahead of Russell Henley. Frittelli returns this year to defend as a +8000 underdog, while Henley is listed at +2000 at Bovada.

Last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic ended with a three-player playoff between Cameron Davis, Troy Merritt and Joaquin Niemann. Davis won the playoff to record his first career PGA Tour win. He’ll be in the field this week at Deere Run and he’s listed at +2500 at Bovada to make it back-to-back wins. Merritt is also playing this week as a +4000 underdog.

Along with Harman and Frittelli, there are a few other former John Deere Classic winners in the field this week. They include 2018 winner Michael Kim (+50000), 2016 winner Ryan Moore (+6000), 2012 winner and three-time runner-up Zach Johnson (+4000), and three-time winner Steve Stricker (+5000).
