PGA Betting: The Memorial Odds Preview
The PGA Tour tees it up at Muirfield Village Country Club in Dublin, Ohio, this week for the Memorial Tournament.
The favorite at Bovada Sportsbook this week is Jon Rahm at +1000. Rahm previously won the Memorial in 2020 and last year held a six-shot lead after 54 holes but was forced to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19.
Rahm led 2021 tourney in repeat bid before withdrawal
Rahm’s withdrawal last year was good news for Patrick Cantlay, who went on to defeat Collin Morikawa in a playoff to win the tournament. That was Cantlay’s second Memorial win following his first victory in 2019. If he were to win again this year, he would be the first repeat winner since Tiger Woods in 2009 and would join Woods and Kenny Perry as the only golfers to win the event at least three times. Woods, by the way, has won the Memorial a record five times.
Cantlay is listed at +1600 to win again this year, putting him behind Rahm and Rory McIlroy, who is listed at +1100.
McIlroy is coming off an eighth-place finish in the PGA Championship that marked his third straight top-10 finish on the tour and his fourth of 2022. He’s still looking for his first tour win of 2022 and hasn’t finished atop the leaderboard since the CJ Cup in October.
Following Rahm, Cantlay and McIlroy on the Memorial odds at Bovada are Cameron Smith and Morikawa, tied at +2000. Both are looking for their first win in this tournament.
Morikawa looking for first Memorial Tournament victory
Morikawa has come the closest after losing to Cantlay in last year’s playoff. Morikawa hasn’t been in contention in a tournament since placing fifth at the Masters in mid-April. His best finish since was a tie for 26th place in the RBC Heritage.
Last week’s PGA Tour stop was the Charles Schwab Challenge, which Sam Burns won after besting world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in a playoff. Neither Burns nor Scheffler will be at Muirfield this week. The top finisher from the Charles Schwab in this week’s field is Davis Riley, who tied for fourth and is a +4000 underdog in the Memorial.
Along with Rahm and Cantlay, there are several other former Memorial winners in this week’s field, including 2018 winner Bryson DeChambeau (+8000), 2017 winner Jason Dufner (+50000), 2016 winner William McGirt (+75000), 2015 winner David Lingmerth (+50000), 2014 winner Hideki Matsuyama (+2500) and 2013 winner Matt Kuchar (+6600).
