Philly Stake: Betting Philly Style Update
The Phillies are looking tough, the Eagles are looking rough and we get to call Andy Reid’s ‘Kolb Is My Starter’ bluff.
In baseball, the Phillies surged to a 3-game lead atop the NL East, but have a series against the fading Braves before they can settle into playoff mode. Who wants to face a team that trots out Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt twice each in a 7-game series?
Oddsmakers are wise to the numbers and moved them to NL pennant favorite status at 7/4 at bodog.com this week, just ahead of the Braves and Reds. The World Series odds still list the Yankees and Rays slightly ahead of the Phils, but that can change quickly.
And after boasting three MVPs in four seasons, it’s strange to see no Phillies in the final stretch run NL MVP odds lists as places like Sportsbook.com. Joey Votto leads the way -400 while Albert Pujols is even odds (+100).
Stick with Vick
The oddsmakers at bodog.com clearly feel Michael Vick is the man in Philly, introducing three fun Vick props for Week 2. You can bet on which of these three options will happen first: throw for a TD, run for a TD or throw a pick with the TD pass the favorite option.
There is an over-under of 245.5 on his projected passing yards Sunday against the Lions and 35.5 yards for his rushing total. The Eagles meanwhile, already battered by injury, are favored at Detroit by 4.5 points, although this number often creeps up on favorites, especially at bodog which is known f or favorable underdog odds.
With their Week 1 loss and injury woes, oddsmakers dropped the Eagles from 22/1 all the way to 40/1 on Super Bowl future odds lists. The team that beat them jumped to top spot in the same list as Green Bay is now 7/1.
The Iggles also fell from a solid second choice to win the NFC East to the underdog at +450. Dallas remains favored despite its lame Week 1 loss to the Redskins.
Owls are Dogs vs Huskies
Temple hosts UConn in college action and the home team was a 6.5-point underdog as of Thursday night (check the current odds here at Americasline.com).
PSU now 100/1 for BCS
The loss to Alabama shoved Penn State way down to 100/1 on the BCS Championship odds list. The Nittany Lions host Kent State of the MAC Saturday and lay 21.5 points on the college football spread. If the game unfolds anything like the 32-10 meeting back in 2003, PSU would barely cover the number.
The Golden Flash defense is going to seem pretty soft after the Tide game and many experts are backing the Lions to win big.
