Season Props: Major League Baseball
If pitchers continue to dominate in 2011 like they did in 2010 a lot of cash could be made off MLB season props at Sportsbook.com
With no-hitters and perfect games all over the place the 2010 baseball season was called the Year of the Pitcher. The resurgence of pitching meant a drop in offensive stats. Just look at the home run totals, where other than Jose Bautista and Albert Pujols most other sluggers took a step back in 2010.
At Sportsbook.com the 2011 MLB season props have just arrived, and some of them appear ripe for the picking even if the young arms that baffled batters last season keep sending them away swinging in 2011.
Look at the Most RBI prop at Sportsbook.com - the total was set at a lofty 136.5. A few years ago that total would have been a solid middle of the pack number, but not last season. Last year Miguel Cabrera led the Majors in RBI with 126. That's nearly 10 off this year's total. One thing to note, though, is that Cabrera was shut down early with an ankle injury and could have driven in more runs if he had been healthy. That same goes for Alex Rodriguez, who had 125 RBI in only 137 games. If the sluggers stay healthy this could turn out to be an easy winning OVER bet.
Another interesting prop total is stolen bases, which has been listed with a total of 65.5. Last season Juan Pierre led the Majors with a career-high 68 swipes, and no one else even cleared 55. Despite being 34 Pierre still has the jets, but will he play every day for the White Sox? Pierre might not be the only threat to swipe 65-plus though. Remember Jacoby Ellsbury? Two years ago he stole 70 bases, but he was limited to seven last year because of injury. Michael Bourn, Brett Gardner, and Rajai Davis also have the speed to get into the 60s.
How about the pitchers? The easiest prop to cash out on at Sportsbook.com is likely wins, with a total of 20.5. The only problem is it won't pay much because the OVER is a big favorite at -160. Last season Roy Halladay and CC Sabathia both had 21 victories, and with the plethora of young and talented arms in both leagues there's no doubt at least one hurler will pass the 20-win mark again in 2011.
