Smith, Jets Set to Host Dolphins on MNF
Week 13 of the NFL season wraps up with an AFC East clash between 6-5 Miami and the 2-9 New York Jets on Monday night. New York opened as a 4-point home underdog, but all the early money was on the Dolphins to the point where the 5Dimes betting odds for the game have Miami favored by 7 points. The total has remained fairly steady at 42.
The Dolphins are looking to bounce back from last week’s 39-36 loss to Denver as 6.5-point road underdogs in a game they led 28-17 heading into the fourth quarter. Miami did cover to move to 5-1 against the spread in its last six games. The total went OVER the 5Dimes closing 47-point line in that game after staying UNDER in its previous five outings.
New York’s season continued to spiral downward with a dismal 38-3 loss to Buffalo last Monday night in a game that was actually played in Detroit. The Jets failed to cover as 2.5-point road underdogs to fall to 2-8-1 on the year ATS. They return home with a 1-5 record ATS in their first six games at MetLife Stadium this year. The total has stayed UNDER in their last three games overall.
Ryan Tannehill continues to try and establish himself as Miami’s future franchise quarterback, and while he has not set the world on fire he has played well enough to keep his team in the middle of the AFC playoff picture. The Dolphins come into Monday night’s game with an offense that is ranked 10th in scoring with 25.9 points a game.
The Jets started the season with second-year quarterback Geno Smith at the helm, but as the losses started to pile up they turned to veteran Michael Vick to create a spark. The 14-year veteran did little to turn things around, so the team has decided to give Smith another try this Monday night. Regardless of which player is under center, New York’s offense is clearly one of the worst in the league with just 310.2 yards a game and a scoring average of 16.1 points.
Miami has covered ATS in four of its last five road games and the total has stayed UNDER in five of its last seven games on the road. The Jets are 3-6 ATS in their last nine home games against the AFC East and the total has gone OVER in seven of their last nine division games at home.
Head-to-head in this matchup, the Dolphins have won five of the last six meetings both SU and ATS and the total has stayed UNDER in six of the last seven games.
