Sports Betting Week: NBA and the US Open
The NBA season could come to an end on Monday night unless the Cleveland Cavaliers have another bounceback performance in them.
After an impressive showing in Game 4 of the NBA Finals the Cavaliers couldn’t keep it going in Game 5. In that game the Golden State Warriors rolled to a 108-97 win as a 2.5-point road underdog to take a 3-1 series lead. The Cavaliers are a 6-point underdog at online sportsbook Bovada for Game 5, but if they can win Game 6 will be played in Cleveland on Thursday.
For golf bettors this week delivers the second major of the season with the U.S Open set to tee off at Oakmont Country Club.
Jordan Spieth is the reigning U.S. Open champ after winning at Chambers Bay last year, but at Bovada he’s a +800 underdog to repeat. The co-favorites are Rory McIlroy and Jason Day at +700. McIlroy won the U.S. Open five years ago at Congressional, while Day’s best results in the major were second-place finishes in 2011 and 2013.
The last time the U.S. Open was played at Oakmont in 2007 Angel Cabrera was a surprise winner. He’s a +20,000 longshot to win again, while Ernie Els, who won at Oakmont in 1994, is listed at +25,000.
On the diamond this week two big divisional matchups highlight the American League slate, while in the National League two of the best in baseball face off.
In the American League the Baltimore Orioles visit the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians drop in on the Kansas City Royals.
The Orioles and Red Sox are tied atop the AL East heading into the opener of their three-game series on Tuesday. In seven meetings this season Baltimore is 4-3. In the last six games between them in Boston the Red Sox have had the advantage at 4-2.
The Indians are three games up on the Royals in the AL Central standings heading into their series. The Indians have owned the Royals this season at 6-1 in seven matchups so far. Cleveland is also 9-3 in their last 12 versus Kansas City
The Cubs and Nationals are the two best teams in the National League and could be giving us an early playoff preview. Chicago should have no fear facing Washington considering they are 4-0 against them this season and have won six straight overall.
