Sports Betting Weekend: MLB & UFC Focus
Fresh off a sweep of the Kansas City Royals, the Toronto Blue Jays carry a five-game winning streak into a weekend series with the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers are also surging right now with a 7-2 record in their last nine games. In three previous meetings this season the Tigers are 2-1 versus Toronto, but the Jays hold a 5-2 edge in their last seven matchups. Toronto has also won their last five home games against Detroit.
In the National League this weekend NL East rivals clash when the New York Mets host the Washington Nationals. The Mets are 6-1 in their last seven games, while the Nationals have been struggling on the road with only one win in their last eight outings. In nine games between the Mets and Nationals this season Washington has the edge with a 6-3 record.
Staying in the National League, in the NL Central the slumping Chicago Cubs try to turn things around on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs are only 1-6 in their last seven games, which includes losing four straight on the road. Pittsburgh has won seven straight heading into Thursday, but they’ve had no luck against the Cubs this season at 1-8.
On the track this weekend NASCAR heads to the Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400. Kyle Busch has won twice at Kentucky, including last year, and he’s the favorite at online sportsbook Bovada at +450. Kevin Harvick follows him at +550, with Joey Logano at +650.
Formula 1 is in the UK this weekend for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Lewis Hamilton has won this race the last two seasons and he’s the favorite at the sportsbooks to make it three straight. Nico Rosberg won at Silverstone in 2013, and he follows Hamilton on the odds.
UFC has a big weekend coming up with UFC 200 on Saturday night, but the card took a hit after the main event was cancelled because Jon Jones failed a drug test. The headliner now is a Heavyweight bout between Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt. Hunt is the favorite at -175 at Bovada, while Lesnar is at +145 in his first fight since 2011.
Also on the UFC 200 card is a Women’s Bantamweight championship bout between Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes. Tate is a heavy favorite to defend her title at -260, while Nunes is a +200 underdog.
