Stanley Cup Future Odds Update
At the beginning of 2024 the Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers are co-favorites to hoist the Stanley Cup at the end of the NHL season.
On the latest Stanley Cup odds at the Bovada Sportsbook both the Bruins and the Rangers are listed at +850. That’s a solid improvement for both teams from the preseason when the Bruins were at +1200 and the Rangers were at +1400.
The offseason retirement of captain Patrice Bergeron hasn’t slowed down Boston as they sit atop the Atlantic Division with 50 points. If the Bruins can finish at the top of the Eastern Conference and earn home ice throughout the postseason it could turn into a strong advantage as Boston has been tough to beat at home this season at 11-2-3.
The Rangers currently lead the East and the league with 51 points. New York leads the way despite Igor Shesterkin failing to live up to his Vezina-winning stats from last season. Jonathan Quick has bailed him out by seemingly finding the fountain of youth. If Shesterkin can regain last season’s form, and the Rangers’ balanced offense keeps filling the net, the Rangers could be tough to beat in the playoffs.
Vegas, Colorado are next on Stanley Cup odds
Following the Bruins and the Rangers on the Stanley Cup futures are the last two Stanley Cup winners, the Vegas Golden Knights and the Colorado Avalanche, both at +900.
Vegas and Colorado both have 49 points, tying them for top spot in the Western Conference with the Vancouver Canucks.
Early on in the season Vegas looked like they were going to roll to a repeat championship after winning 11 of their first 12 games. In December Vegas looked mortal while going 7-6. On the road this season the Golden Knights are 9-8-3 so playing in Vegas could be key to them winning the Cup again.
Colorado continues to get elite offensive production from the trio of Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar. What the Avalanche really need is some steady goaltending from Alexander Georgiev, as he’s delivered a disappointing .899 save percentage this season which won’t cut it in the playoffs.
Vancouver offers value on Stanley Cup futures
The best value on the Stanley Cup futures right now appears to be Vancouver at +1800. They were an even better value in the preseason at +5000. The Canucks are atop the West and currently lead the league in scoring thanks to huge seasons from Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser. Bettors should keep an eye on the Canucks in the second half of the season to see if they can keep this up.
The Stanley Cup odds on a few other notable teams include the Dallas Stars at +1000, the Edmonton Oilers at +1100, the Carolina Hurricanes at +1200, the Toronto Maple Leafs at +1400, and the New Jersey Devils at +1600.
