Super Bowl 48: A Prop-Betting Paradise
Most of us already know how we're going to bet, on the side and/or the total, on the upcoming Super Bowl XLVIII. But that's not enough to satiate our Super Bowl betting fix, is it? Not on the last NFL game of the year!
That's why sportsbooks offer a menu full of Super Bowl proposition bets. After all, someone has to take care of our full-service Super Bowl betting needs. Here's a sampling of Super Bowl 48 props bets we found on visits early this week to Bovada and 5Dimes.
Outside, in New Jersey, in February?
Good idea or bad, this year's Super Bowl is being played not at the usual dome or warm-weather site, but at MetLife Stadium in northern New Jersey. This unusual venue provides fodder for several weather-related props. Bovada is offering a price of +150 on the chance it will snow during the game; an OVER/UNDER of 32 degrees on the temperature at kickoff; and a price of +2000 on another Super Bowl power outage.
Between the Lines
As far as the game itself is concerned Bovada is offering a price of +150 on the possibility of Seattle CB Richard Sherman receiving a pass interference penalty; +400 on Sherman receiving a taunting penalty; and +550 on his receiving an unnecessary roughness penalty.
5Dimes is offering +215 on the possibility of either team attempting a 2-point conversion; an OVER/UNDER of 1.5 on total interceptions; a price of +400 on either a safety being scored or the game going into overtime; and a price of +300 on the game being decided by exactly three points.
Talk, Talk, Talk
For those into mind-reading some books are offering prop bets on the utterances of the Fox Sports announcers during the broadcast. Bovada lists an OVER/UNDER of two on how many times the phrase “12th man” will be used; an O/U of two on “Beast Mode;” and a price of +400 if the game announcers utter the word “marijuana” during the live part of the telecast.
Postgame Mic Check
Finally, bettors can get +200 at Bovada on the chance that Sherman will give Fox reporter Erin Andrews another on-field interview following the game. That should be enough to keep many of us tuned in after the final gun.
