Super Bowl 50 Betting Props: Touchdowns
With the Carolina Panthers' No. 1 ranked scoring offense taking the field in Super Bowl 50 there is the potential for a lot of points to be scored. Of course, the Denver Broncos' No. 1 ranked defense may have something to say about that.
You can try and predict the final score between these offensive and defensive titans, but the real money maker is in correctly predicting who will deliver the first score.
Props are big business during the Super Bowl and one that has the potential for big profit at online sportsbook Bovada is who will score the game’s first touchdown. Even the favorite, which happens to be Cam Newton, would pay well at +700.
One key to remember is a touchdown pass doesn’t count for Newton; it counts for the receiver who catches the ball. Newton ran the ball into the end zone 10 times this season, which not only is the most on Carolina, it’s the most on Denver as well.
Right behind Newton on those odds are his Carolina teammates Greg Olsen at +750 and Jonathan Stewart at +800. Olsen led the Panthers in receiving this season and also caught seven touchdowns. Stewart, the Panthers’ leading rusher, had six rushing touchdowns and one TD catch.
The leader in receiving touchdowns for Carolina with 10 was Ted Ginn Jr., who is listed at +1000.
Switching sides and looking at some of Denver’s offensive weapons, the best odds are going to C.J. Anderson at +900. He had only five rushing touchdowns this season, but he has found the end zone in three of the Broncos' last four games.
One interesting pick for Denver could be tight end Owen Daniels at +1400. Last week against New England both Denver touchdowns were caught by Daniels and that included the first score of the game.
If you’d prefer to try and predict the total number of touchdowns in the big game Bovada has a number of different totals with different odds. The totals available include 3.5, 4.5, 5, and 5.5.
If you expect a low-scoring game UNDER 3.5 has the most profitable odds at +275. Not surprisingly OVER 3.5 is much less at -350. On the other end the 5.5 total has the OVER listed at +125 and the UNDER at -155.
