The lowest seed left standing hopes to continue dancing Friday when the No. 15 Saint Peter’s Peacocks take on the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers in the East Region.
At Bovada Sportsbook, the Boilermakers are 12.5-point favorites. Purdue is 2-0 against the spread in the tournament with both wins coming as the favorite. Prior to the tournament, Purdue was 0-9-1 ATS in its previous 10 games when favored.
Saint Peter’s shocked the No. 2 Kentucky Wildcats 85-79 as an 18.5-point underdog in their tournament opener and followed that up with a 70-60 win over the Murray State Racers as an 8-point underdog. As an underdog, Saint Peter’s has won four in a row straight up and is 9-1 ATS in the last 10.
Bruins have only lost twice in last 21 as favorite in tournament
Also in the East Region on Friday, the No. 4 UCLA Bruins face the No. 8 North Carolina Tar Heels as 2.5-point favorites.
UCLA squeezed past the Akron Zips 57-53 as a 13.5-point favorite in their tournament opener before crushing the Saint Mary’s Gaels 72-56 as a 3-point favorite. As a favorite in the tournament, the Bruins are 19-2 SU and 11-10 ATS in their last 21 games.
North Carolina is coming off a 93-86 upset win over the No. 1 seed Baylor Bears as a 5.5-point underdog. The Tar Heels are 6-1 ATS in their last seven, but as an underdog in the tournament they’re 1-6 SU and ATS in their last seven.
In the last six matchups between a No. 4 and a No. 8 seed, the No. 8 seed is 4-2 SU and 4-1-1 ATS.
Providence has covered spread in 9 of last 10 as underdog
In the Midwest Region on Friday, the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks face the No. 4 Providence Friars as a 7-point favorite.
Kansas was 1-1 ATS through its first two tournament games. As a favorite in the tournament, the Jayhawks have won seven straight with a 4-3 ATS record.
Providence easily won and covered both of its tournament games through the first two rounds. As an underdog, the Friars are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games.
In the last nine matchups between a No. 1 and a No. 4 seed, the No. 1 seed has won all nine with a 7-1-1 ATS record.
Hurricanes, Cyclones tip off in matchup of 10 and 11 seeds
Finishing off Friday’s schedule in the Midwest, the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes face the No. 11 Iowa State Cyclones as a 2.5-point favorite.
Miami has won both of its tournament games as an underdog, including defeating the No. 2 Auburn Tigers 79-61 as a 6.5-point underdog. When favored this season, the Hurricanes were 8-13 ATS, and as a favorite in the tournament they’ve lost five straight ATS.
Iowa State also delivered a pair of upset wins to start the tournament, including knocking off the No. 3 Wisconsin Badgers 54-49 as a 4-point underdog. As an underdog this season, the Cyclones were 10-9 SU and 13-6 ATS.
A No. 10 vs a No. 11 seed in the tournament is rare, and the 11 seed has won two of the last three matchups both SU and ATS.
