Sweet 16 Thursday Betting Odds Preview
The Madness resumes Thursday with the Sweet 16 as the overall No. 1 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs look to advance when they face the No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks in the West Region.
At Bovada Sportsbook, the Bulldogs are 9-point favorites. Gonzaga has been a letdown for bettors so far in the tournament with losses against the spread in both of its games. Overall, Gonzaga is 2-6 ATS in its last eight games.
Arkansas has also gone 0-2 ATS in the tournament so far. The Razorbacks were favored in both games, but now as an underdog they could be a stronger bet as they’re 4-1 ATS in their last five as a dog.
In No. 1 vs No. 4 matchups, the No. 1 seed has won eight straight with a 6-1-1 record ATS.
Red Raiders slight favorites over Blue Devils in West
Sticking in the West, the other Thursday matchup is the No. 3 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils. At Bovada, Texas Tech is a 1-point favorite.
The Red Raiders are 1-1 ATS in the tournament following their 59-53 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as 8-point favorites in the Round of 32. When favored in the tournament, they’re 7-1 SU and 5-3 ATS in their last eight games.
Duke is also 1-1 ATS in the tournament and 1-5 ATS in its last six games overall. It’s rare that the Blue Devils are an underdog in the NCAA Tournament, but when they are, they’re 1-4 SU and 2-2-1 ATS in their last five games.
In the No. 2 vs No. 3 matchup, the No. 3 seed is 4-2 SU and ATS in the last six games.
Arizona has covered only 1 of last 8 as fave in tourney
In the South Region on Thursday, the No. 1 Arizona Wildcats take on the No. 5 Houston Cougars as 1.5-point favorites.
Arizona is 0-2 ATS in the tournament and 4-4 ATS in its last eight games overall. When favored in the tournament, the Wildcats have been a bad bet at 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight.
Houston has won five straight ATS and nine of its last 10 games. However, in the tournament as an underdog, the Cougars have dropped four in a row with a 1-3 ATS record.
In five matchups between the Wildcats and Cougars, Arizona is 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS. In the last 10 matchups between a No. 1 and No. 5 seed, the No. 1 is 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS.
Wolverines have upset wins in 4 of last 5 as underdog
The other South Region matchup pits the No. 2 Villanova Wildcats against the No. 11 Michigan Wolverines as a 5.5-point favorite.
Villanova won its first two games of the tournament ATS and when favored has won 12 straight with a 6-5-1 ATS record. In the tournament, the Wildcats have dominated when favored with 11 straight wins both SU and ATS.
Michigan is coming off a 76-68 upset win over the Tennessee Volunteers as a 7-point underdog. In their last five games as the underdog, the Wolverines are 4-1 SU and ATS.
In three previous matchups between Villanova and Michigan, the Wildcats are 2-1 SU and ATS. In a No. 11 vs No. 2 matchup, the No. 2 seed is 10-2 SU and 6-5-1 ATS in the last 12 games.
