The Masters Betting Odds Preview
The first major of the PGA season begins this weekend with the Masters at Augusta National.
The Masters co-favorites at Bovada Sportsbook are Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas, both at +1200.
Rahm captured his first major win last year with a U.S. Open title, and he finished in the top eight in all four majors, which included tying for fifth in the Masters. Rahm is currently ranked second in the world golf rankings and has a pair of top-three finishes in 2022.
Rahm, Thomas co-favorites to don green jacket
Thomas will be looking to rebound from a disappointing showing in the majors in 2021. Last year he failed to crack the top 10 in any major tournament, which included tying for 21st at the Masters. His best career finish at Augusta came in 2020 when he placed fourth. Thomas hasn’t won on tour yet this season, but he does have six top-10 finishes, which includes four in the top five.
Following Rahm and Thomas on the Master odds at Bovada are Cameron Smith and Scottie Scheffler at +1400.
Smith has been in contention at Augusta several times, including tying for 10th last year, tying for second in 2020 and tying for fifth in 2018. He already has two wins under his belt in 2022 after winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January and the Players Championship last month.
Top-ranked Scheffler looking for first major win
Scheffler has arguably been the best golfer on tour this season and it moved him up to the top of the world golf rankings. Scheffler has won the WM Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC Match Play event. He’s also finished second twice this season. Scheffler is still looking for his first major victory and his best finish at Augusta came last year when he tied for 18th place.
The defending Masters champion is Hideki Matsuyama, who claimed his first major last year by shooting 10 under par to finish a stroke ahead of Will Zalatoris. At Bovada, Matsuyama is a +4000 underdog to win another green jacket after dealing with neck and back problems in the last few weeks. He has had success on tour in 2022 with wins in the Zozo Championship and the Sony Open. For those wondering, Zalatoris is listed at +3300.
Tiger Woods +5000 to win Masters Tournament
Along with Matsuyama, there are several other former Masters winners in the field this week. They include 2020 winner Dustin Johnson (+1600), 2018 winner Patrick Reed (+6600), 2017 winner Sergio Garcia (+8000), 2016 winner Danny Willett (+15000), 2015 winner Jordan Spieth (+2000), 2013 winner Adam Scott (+5000) and two-time winner Bubba Watson (+8000).
That list of former Masters champions may also include Tiger Woods if the five-time winner decides to play 14 months after a devastating car accident. Woods is currently listed at +5000 at Bovada.
