TNF Betting Preview: Cardinals at Niners
The struggling Arizona Cardinals get another shot to turn things around on Thursday night when they visit the San Francisco 49ers for Thursday Night Football.
The Cardinals have stumbled out of the gate to a 1-3 record both straight up and against the spread. Arizona was favored in all three losses and owns an ugly 2-5 SU record and 1-6 ATS mark in their last seven games.
Last week the Cardinals were a 10-point home favorite in a 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Against the Rams the Cardinals turned the ball over five times. Carson Palmer passed for 288 yards with a touchdown and an interception before exiting the game with a concussion. He’s out for Thursday night, and Drew Stanton gets the start in his place.
The 49ers head into Thursday night having lost three in a row SU and ATS. Last week they lost to the Dallas Cowboys 24-17 as a 1.5-point underdog. Blaine Gabbert passed for 196 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while Carlos Hyde rushed for 74 yards and a TD on 15 carries.
The Cardinals are 3-1 SU and ATS in their last four games versus the 49ers. In San Francisco it’s a different story, as the 49ers are a surprising 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games against Arizona.
The oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bovada still believe in the Cardinals and have listed them as a 3.5-point road favorite. The last time the Cardinals were a road favorite earlier this season they were clobbered by the Buffalo Bills 33-18 as 4.5-point chalk. In their last eight games as a road favorite Arizona is 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS.
The 49ers have been a home underdog twice already this season, going 1-1 SU and ATS. In their last 10 games as a home underdog they’ve posted a 5-5 record SU and a 6-4 record ATS.
One interesting trend, the 49ers have gone UNDER the total in their last seven games as a home underdog and in nine of their last 10. The total has also gone UNDER in nine of the 49ers’ last 12 games against their own division. Sticking with the UNDER trend, three of the last four between Arizona and San Francisco have gone UNDER the posted total.
