Week 6 Thursday Night Football Odds Preview
Division leaders clash to get Week 6 in the NFL started as the Carolina Panthers play host to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football.
The Panthers are a 3-point home favorite at Bovada Sportsbook as they go for their first win against the spread at home this season. Last week on the road they upset the Detroit Lions 27-24 as a 2-point underdog. Cam Newton had a strong game in the victory, completing 26 of 33 passes for 355 yards with three touchdowns. Ed Dickson hauled in five passes for 175 yards, while Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess and Christian McCaffrey all had a TD reception.
The Eagles have won three in a row straight up after rolling over the Arizona Cardinals 34-7 as a 6-point favorite last week. Carson Wentz torched the Cardinals for four touchdowns while completing 21 of 30 passes for 304 yards. Nelson Agholor caught four passes for 93 yards and a touchdown and Torrey Smith and Zach Ertz has TD catches in the win.
The Eagles boast the third-best offense in the NFL right now, leading them to a 4-1 SU start and a 3-2 ATS record. Philadelphia is 6-2 ATS in its last eight, but has had trouble on the road, posting a 2-8 record SU and 3-7 record ATS in the last 10. The Eagles are also 0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS in their last six games on the road against teams with winning records.
The Panthers are also 4-1 SU on the season, but they’ve been a more favorable pick for bettors at 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games. Carolina has failed to cover the spread at home so far this season with a 0-1-1 ATS mark, and looking back further they’re a disappointing 4-3 SU and 2-3-2 ATS in their last seven home games.
The matchup trends favor the Eagles, as they are 4-2 SU and ATS in their last six versus the Panthers. However, in this matchup the favored team has won four straight both SU and ATS.
For totals bettors both sides are 3-2 OVER/UNDER so far this season. In four of the last five matchups between the Eagles and Panthers, the OVER has prevailed. Philadelphia is also 12-3 OVER in its last 15 road games, while Carolina is 6-3 UNDER in its last nine at home.
