World Series Odds: Dodgers Still Favorites

The Los Angeles Dodgers remain the betting favorites on the latest World Series futures at sportsbooks, but a new team has moved up to second on the odds list as they announce themselves as a contender this season.

On the World Series odds at the Bovada Sportsbook the Dodgers are the +340 favorite. The Dodgers continue to chase the San Francisco Giants in the NL West, but they’ve shortened the gap slightly thanks to a four-game winning streak, which includes a win over the Giants. The Dodgers and Giants meet up seven times in 11 days in late July which could tip off bettors to who is going to win the NL West.

The new second favorite on the World Series futures this week are the Houston Astros at +600. The Astros won 11 games in a row earlier this month and have posted a 19-7 record overall in June to tie the Boston Red Sox for the best record in the American League. That winning streak included a four-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox, who previously occupied the second slot on the World Series futures before Houston took it from them. The Astros lead the majors in runs scored and appear to be able to hit just fine even without banging on a trash can.

Rounding out the top five on the World Series futures are the White Sox at +700, the San Diego Padres at +750, and the New York Mets at +900.

Yankees sliding down World Series odds

While the Mets have slowly been moving up the World Series futures all season, their New York neighbours the Yankees continue to slide down. The Yankees are now listed at +1200, down from the +550 odds they were getting earlier this season. The Yankees are 17-24 against the rest of the AL East this season, with six of those wins coming against the lowly Orioles, and that’s not going to cut it the rest of the way if they hope to sneak into the postseason.

While the Yankees continue to slide down the World Series futures the Red Sox have moved up to +1500, while the Tampa Bay Rays sit at +1400. Both have seen large improvements since the start of the season when Boston was listed at +4500 and the Rays sat at +2800.

One other team that has been moving up the World Series futures all season are the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are up to +1800 which is quite the rise considering they started the season at +8000 and were not on anyone’s radar as a contender. San Francisco owns the best record in baseball and should keep it going into July when it starts the month with a four-game series against the NL-worst Arizona Diamondbacks.
