Las Vegas - If you like trends in the NFL, check these two out. The Rams are 12-3-1 against the spread in their last 16 games following a double-digit loss at home. That's an 80% cover rate, so, we bet L.A. right? Hold on a second. How about this. The Seahawks have covered nine of their last 10 games as an underdog at home. That's a 90% cover rate and my head is spinning in both directions. Unless a major injury pops up before the opening kickoff, think we're just gonna sit this one out.
What we're not sitting out is some college football. Gimme Houston -6 points over Tulane. This looks like a steal because we have the Cougars almost 12 points better than the Green Wave on our Power Ratings. And it looks like this Houston team LOVES to play on the road. The Coogs whipped Rice 44-7, then blasted Tulsa last week, 45-10. Head Coog, Dana Holgorsen, you remember him from West Virginia, can coach 'em up. He was 61-41 in seven years down in Morgantown, and after two awful years in Houston, his kids are now rolling with a gorgeous 4-1 record. And if you have not heard about the Cougar QB, Clayton Tune, he is hitting passes at a 71% rate this season. The Green Wave looks like it turned black & blue. After hanging with Oklahoma in the opener (40-35) and smoking a cupcake, Morgan State (69-0), the Wave is rushing in the wrong direction. They were blitzed by Mississippi 61-21, lost to UAB 28-21, then got blasted by East Carolina, 52-29. Tulane is giving up 39 points per game while Houston is scoring 36.5 ppg. And finally, you need to know that Holgorsen built his home in Morgantown in 2014. The home is the first luxury residence in the U.S. to be built completely of cross-laminated timber. Have NO idea what cross-laminated timber is, but did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. And since the Green Wave crested in the first week, gotta have Houston for the money, and, you can BOOK IT!
