Super Bowl XLIX Prop Bets: An Early Roundup
It's almost difficult to summarize the Super Bowl 49 prop bet offerings; it might take until game day to sort through them all. Online sportsbook Bovada is offering Super Bowl props on players, stats, teams, touchdowns, interceptions, field goals, the national anthem, the halftime show, the Gatorade shower, and most things in-between. Here's a sample.
We'll start first with some of the Super Bowl player props, where in the early prop betting Bovada was offering a price of +1000 on either Tom Brady or Russell Wilson throwing an interception on their first pass attempt. Also, bettors who think the Seattle defense might cause nightmares for Brady could get +700 on the chance Tom Terrific tosses three or more interceptions, and bettors who think Wilson might have a big game could get +1200 on the possibility the Seattle quarterback throws three or more touchdown passes.
Bovada will also have an eye on the Super Bowl stat sheet. As of early this week the sportsbook was listing an OVER/UNDER of 3.5 on total rushing yards for Brady, 40.5 for Wilson, 62.5 for LeGarrette Blount and 92.5 for Marshawn Lynch.
Also, Lynch was favored by 29.5 yards in a head-to-head rushing matchup with Blount.
Bettors can also get a price of +250 on Blount topping 100 yards rushing; +550 on Lynch topping 150 yards; and +525 on Wilson throwing for 300 yards.
Then we come to the various cross-sport props. For instance, the number of Brady Super Bowl pass attempts is matched up in a head-to-head bet against the total number of points, rebounds and assists Kobe Bryant will produce in the Lakers' game against the Knicks earlier that day; the total points scored by New England is pitted against the number of points Carmelo Anthony scores for the Knicks that day; and the number of TD passes Wilson throws is set against the number of points Sidney Crosby tallies for the Penguins that day against the Predators.
Then there's always the “first touchdown of the game” prop, where Lynch is the favorite at 11/2, followed by, among others, Rob Gronkowski at 13/2, Seattle tight end Luke Willson at 16/1, New England wide receiver Danny Amendola at 20/1 and Brady at 35/1. Bettors can also get 125/1 on the proposition that neither team scores a touchdown on Super Bowl Sunday. Which has never happened.
Even long before kickoff prop bettors can get in on some action. Bovada is offering +400 on the chance the league fines Lynch for something he does - or doesn't do - on media day.
Bovada is also offering wagers on the halftime show, how often Mrs. Brady will be shown during the telecast, who the Super Bowl MVP will thank first, and how many times the phrase “deflated balls” is used by the game announcers.
Not enough? We'll take a look at even more Super Bowl 49 props next week.
