Sports Betting Week: G-State Title Bound?
Down 2-0 in the NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers face a critical Game 3 of the series when they play host to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.
Golden State took a 2-0 series lead by hammering the Cavaliers 110-77 as a 6-point favorite at online sportsbook Bovada on Sunday. With that victory the Warriors have won and covered the spread in five straight games. Heading home for Game 3 may be what Cleveland needs; during the postseason the Cavaliers are 7-0 straight up and 6-1 against the spread at home.
The Stanley Cup Final resumes Monday night in San Jose with the Sharks trailing the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in the series. San Jose picked up their first win of the series with a 3-2 overtime win in Game 3. Pittsburgh is still the series favorite at Bovada at -230, while the Sharks are a +190 underdog.
Game 5 of the series follows on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.
In baseball this week the schedule-makers have dealt out three interesting series as the Houston Astros visit the Texas Rangers, the Boston Red Sox face the San Francisco Giants, and the New York Mets take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Astros and Rangers are both red-hot heading into their series which kicked off on Monday. The Rangers are coming off a sweep of the Seattle Mariners and have won seven of their last eight. The Astros have won eight of nine and just completed a sweep of the Oakland Athletics. Texas is a perfect 6-0 against Houston so far this season.
The Red Sox are slumping right now at 1-4 in their last five and 4-7 in their last 11 games. San Francisco just finished up a 10-game road trip during which they went 5-5. These two teams haven’t met up often but Boston has dominated at 7-2 in their last nine matchups.
The Mets and Pirates also stumble into their series. The Mets are 3-5 in their last eight and Pittsburgh is a disappointing 2-7 in their last nine. Last season the Pirates were 6-0 against the Mets and they’ve won seven in a row against them overall.
The PGA Tour stop this week is the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Fabian Gomez recorded his first career PGA win at the St. Jude last year, but he’s a +10,000 longshot to repeat. Dustin Johnson won the St. Jude in 2012 and is the favorite at +700.
