College Football Weekend Bowl Odds Preview

The busy college football bowl season begins this weekend with five smaller bowl game on Saturday.

First up is the New Mexico Bowl with the UTSA Roadrunners taking on the New Mexico Lobos. The Lobos return to the New Mexico Bowl for the second straight year after losing to the Arizona Wildcats 45-37 as a 9-point underdog last season. In three appearances in the New Mexico Bowl the Lobos are 1-2 straight up and 2-1 ATS. UTSA is playing in their first ever FBS bowl game and come in as a 7-point underdog at the Bovada sportsbook.

In the Las Vegas Bowl the Houston Cougars face the San Diego State Aztecs as a 3-point favorite. Houston has been a bettor’s nightmare lately at 1-6 ATS in their last seven games and they’ve lost six straight ATS as a favorite. The Aztecs are 2-7 SU and 4-5 ATS in their last nine as the underdog and lost their lone appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl 20-13 as a 7-point underdog.

Next up, in the Camellia Bowl, the Appalachian State Mountaineers face the Toledo Rockets. Bovada lists Toledo as a slim 1-point favorite and this season they were 8-1 SU and 5-4 ATS as chalk. The Mountaineers appeared in their first FBS bowl game last season and defeated Ohio 31-29 as a 7.5-point favorite. Toledo is 10-5 SU in 15 bowl games, and beat Temple 31-17 as a 2-point underdog in last year’s Boca Raton Bowl.

In the Cure Bowl the Arkansas State Red Wolves face the UCF Knights as a 6-point underdog. The Red Wolves are 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games, but have bad luck in bowl games at 2-4 SU and 3-3 ATS in six appearances. The Knights were 5-2 SU and ATS when listed as a favorite this season, but they’ve lost 10 straight against teams with a winning record.

Finally, in the New Orleans Bowl the Southern Miss Golden Eagles are a 3-point favorite versus the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. Southern Miss ended the season horribly, going 2-5 SU and 1-6 ATS in their last seven. In four previous appearances in the New Orleans Bowl the Golden Eagles are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

The Cajuns were a strong 8-4 ATS this season, which included a 4-2 ATS mark as the underdog. They’ve only appeared in four FBS bowl games, but they’re perfect at 4-0 SU and ATS. Their history against Southern Miss is the exact opposite, as they are 0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS in six matchups.
