MLB Betting Preview: Yankees on Road at Reds

Two of the hottest teams in baseball will conclude a short two-game series Tuesday night when the Cincinnati Reds play host to the New York Yankees.

Heading into the series opener on Monday the Reds had won five straight and seven of their last eight to sit in first place in the NL Central. The Yankees also had a five-game winning streak going, which included a sweep of the Chicago Cubs. Despite the strong start to the season the Reds remain a huge +2500 underdog to win the NL Central at the Bovada Sportsbook, while the Yankees are at +200 to claim the AL East.

Tuesday’s pitching matchup is CC Sabathia (2-1 5.45) for New York and Tim Adleman (1-1 4.22) for Cincinnati. Sabathia is coming off a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays in which he surrendered six runs on seven hits over four innings. Despite his 2-1 record on the season Sabathia has been roughed up a lot lately, and has allowed 17 earned runs in his last three starts.

Adleman delivered a win over the Philadelphia Phillies last time out, limiting them to two runs on six hits over six innings. The Reds and Yankees haven’t met up since 2014 when New York swept a three-game series.

Also on tap Tuesday is the second game between interleague rivals the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles.

The Orioles entered the series having won four straight, while Washington has been killer on the road at 5-1 in their last six and 11-2 in their last 13.

Washington should be a road favorite on Tuesday at the sportsbooks with ace Max Scherzer (4-2, 2.66) on the mound. In his last start against the Arizona Diamondbacks he allowed one run on two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings.

The Orioles will counter with Ubaldo Jimenez (1-1, 6.58). His last outing came out of the bullpen against Boston after starter Kevin Gausman was tossed. He pitched three shutout innings.

Last season Baltimore was 3-1 against Washington and they were a strong 6-1 in their seven against them heading into Monday night.

And two disappointing teams collide Tuesday when the San Francisco Giants visit the New York Mets. This is a rematch of last year’s NL Wild Card game, which the Giants won 3-0.

The Giants give the ball to Jeff Samardzija (0-4, 5.03) on Tuesday, and the Mets will go with Zack Wheeler (1-1, 5.17). New York has been awful at home this season with a 2-7 mark in their last nine games heading into Monday, but the Giants have been no better on the road at 2-8 in their last 10.
