Friday MLB Odds Preview: Yankees at BoSox
The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox renew acquaintances this weekend with the start of a three-game set at Fenway Park on Friday night.
The Red Sox have won four of their last five games and 12 of their last 14. The Yankees are hoping to continue a short streak, having won three in a row heading into action Thursday night.
The scheduled starters for Friday night are Jordan Montgomery (7-6, 3.94) for New York and Drew Pomeranz (12-4, 3.39) for Boston.
Montgomery faced the Red Sox in his last start and came away with a no-decision after allowing one run on two hits over 5 1-3 innings.
Pomeranz faced New York in his last outing and posted a win after surrendering three runs on seven hits over 6 2-3 innings. He is 2-0 with a 4.08 ERA in three starts against the Yankees this season and in eight career games he is 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA.
Last weekend Boston took two of three in New York, but the Yankees still have the edge in the season series at 7-5. The Yankees are also 4-2 in their last six games in Boston, and an interesting trend for totals bettors is that the UNDER is 6-1 in the last seven between these two rivals in Boston.
Also on tap Friday night, division rivals mix it up in Kansas City when the Royals host the Cleveland Indians.
Cleveland carried a five-game winning streak into a Thursday doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins. The Royals have won four of their last five games.
Despite being on the road Cleveland should be favored at the Bovada Sportsbook on Friday night with ace Corey Kluber (11-3, 2.71) on the mound. The Royals will counter with Ian Kennedy (4-8, 4.80).
Kluber is 4-0 in his last five starts and last time out posted a win over the Tampa Bay Rays after he allowed three runs with nine strikeouts in seven innings. He hasn’t faced the Royals this season but in 18 career starts against them he is 7-6 with a 3.21 ERA.
Kennedy recorded a no-decision in his last outing against the Chicago White Sox after allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 1-3 innings. He faced Cleveland in May and posted a no-decision after allowing four runs on three hits in five innings. He is 2-4 with a 5.37 ERA in six starts against Cleveland.
The Royals lead the season series 5-4, but Cleveland is a solid 8-3 in their last 11 games in Kansas City.
