Week 3 Thursday Night Football Odds Preview
Thursday Night Football delivers a matchup of perennial losers this week as the Los Angeles Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers.
The Rams are a rare road favorite in this one as they’ve been listed as 3-point chalk at Bovada Sportsbook. Los Angeles was a 3-point underdog last week in a 27-20 loss to the Washington Redskins. Jared Goff completed 15 of 25 passes for 224 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the loss. Todd Gurley chipped in with 16 carries for 88 yards and a TD and he also caught three passes for 48 yards and a TD. Sammy Watkins continued to underwhelm with only two receptions for 30 yards.
San Francisco put up a much better fight against the Seattle Seahawks last week in a 12-9 loss as 13.5-point underdogs. Brian Hoyer completed 15 of 27 passes for only 99 yards with an interception. The running game provided the bulk of the offense as Carlos Hyde rushed for 124 yards on 15 carries.
Both sides in this matchup head into Thursday night looking to turn around awful results for fans and bettors. The Rams are 1-8 straight up and against the spread in their last nine games. The Niners are surprisingly 3-1 ATS in their last four, but in their last 17 games they have only one win SU and a 4-12-1 ATS record. At home, San Francisco hasn’t benefited from home-field advantage, having lost eight straight at 1-7 ATS.
The matchup trends are pointing toward San Francisco. In their last eight versus the Rams, the 49ers are 6-2 SU and ATS. The 49ers have also won three straight against the Rams as the underdog, including last year’s 28-0 shutout of Los Angeles as a 2.5-point home underdog. In their last nine home games against the Rams, the 49ers are 7-1-1 SU.
For total bettors, all the trends are pointing toward the UNDER. Four of the last five matchups between Los Angeles and San Francisco have gone UNDER. At home, San Francisco is 18-6 UNDER in the last 24 games. The Rams are 11-3 UNDER in their last 14 road games and when favored they’re 9-5-1 UNDER in their last 15.
